The dachshunds exact origin is questionable. Germany must be credited for stabilizing the breed. The dachshund, meaning badger dog, is a longbodied, short legged dog bred to hunt by scent and also goes to ground after its prey.Well balanced, bold and confident, you can expect the unexpected from this little hound! The Official AKC Dachshund Standard recognizes only two sizes, Standard, usually 16 to 32 pounds and Miniature, 11 lbs. and under at 12 months of age. Dachshunds also come in three coat types and several colors and patterns. Picture: Garlin's Vango, Longhair Red Double Dapple | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
